Crawl Budget
The number of pages Googlebot will crawl on a site within a given timeframe.
Definition
Crawl budget is the number of pages Googlebot (or another search engine crawler) will crawl and index on a website within a given time period. Google allocates crawl budget based on the site's authority, server health, and crawl demand. Sites with large page counts, slow load times, or many low-quality pages may exhaust their crawl budget before all important pages are crawled.
Why It Matters
Crawl budget is particularly important for large websites with thousands of pages. If Googlebot wastes its crawl budget on low-value pages β parameter-generated duplicates, thin content, or URLs blocked in error β high-value pages may be crawled less frequently or not at all. Optimizing crawl budget ensures that Googlebot focuses on the pages that matter most.
